UN Committee Discusses Geospatial Information for Sustainable Development[viewed]

Ministers and senior leaders discussed how to ensure more consistent locational positioning and mapping across the globe at the fourth session of the UN Committee of Experts on Global Geospatial Information Management (GGIM). UNDP Administrator Outlines Long-Term Development View[viewed]

UN Development Programme (UNDP) Administrator Helen Clark stressed the need to “get ahead of the curve of future crises and disasters to avert huge and costly development setbacks and lives lost,” in the Aspen Institute's Third Annual Madeleine K. Albright Global Development Lecture. International Day Highlights Need for Full Implementation of Indigenous Peoples' Rights[viewed]

Representatives of indigenous peoples, Member States and UN agencies marked the International Day of the World's Indigenous People with an event on the theme, ‘Bridging the Gap: Implementing the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.' Noting that this year's International Day occurs at an important moment in international negotiations toward a new climate agreement and the post-2015 development agenda, they called for full recognition and implementation of the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP).

UN Secretary-General Appoints Three-Year Advisory Group on Sustainable Transport[viewed]

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has established a High-level Advisory Group on Sustainable Transport, announcing the Group's membership on 8 August 2014. The Group aims to promote accelerated implementation of sustainable transport, in line with objectives to address climate change, protect the global environment and ecosystems and promote inclusive and equitable growth and social development, according to a press release from the Secretary-General.

PGA Transmits Report of OWG to Member States[viewed]

The President of the General Assembly (PGA) transmitted Member States a letter by the Co-Chairs of the Open Working Group (OWG) on Sustainable Goals (SDGs), Csaba Kőrösi, Permanent Representative of Hungary, and Macharia Kamau, Permanent Representative of Kenya, containing the report of the OWG to the General Assembly (GA). The report comprises the proposal of the SDGs, and a record of the proceedings of the OWG at its first to thirteenth sessions.
